I was lucky enough to be a sent a copy of nutritionist Joy Bauer’s newest book “Joy Bauer’s Food Cures”. I am a big fan of NBC’s the Today Show, and so I was already quite familiar with Joy, as she frequently has segments on the show.
I sometimes find with medical doctors that they pay little or no attention to natural health and preventative nutrition. Joy is quite the opposite, and that couldn’t make me happier. This book is literally about eating to prevent and treat various diseases and issues. …

If you’ve taken full advantage of strawberry season, you’re probably wondering what to do with the strawberries that you’ve bought or picked by the bucketload. A sorbet is a light and simple way to use up all those strawberries and not lose an ounce of flavour. This sorbet is vegan and uses maple syrup as the sweetener as well as organic unrefined sugar.
Strawberry Sorbet
makes about 1 quart
2 1/2 pounds strawberries, rinsed and hulled
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
Pinch of sea salt
In a blender, purée the strawberries, sugar and syrup until …

I recently enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Society, part of the Glowbal Group in Vancouver. It was a celebration for Mother’s Day and my Mom’s birthday (the same day!). We sat on the heated patio and although it wasn’t a terribly warm day, we were comfy and warm with the powerful heaters and fun pillows provided.
The family sampled some house made Kobe meatballs which had them all drooling. I started off with some Society Style Buffalo Prawns, and they were delicious. They had just enough kick to them accompanied by …

I was up in Whistler this month, and it was beautiful as always. My family and I had the opportunity to go to a really amazing restaurant. I’ve been coming up to Whistler since I was little and I have seen this restaurant time after time, and always heard great things about it, yet we had never gone. Big mistake!!! The Rimrock features a menu focused on game and seafood, as well as a selection of oysters. I think you all know that while I don’t eat meat, I do …

Taste of Paradise cafe is located at 1399 Commercial drive. Upon heading inside you will notice that there are two or three restaurants in this one location. One side has pizza, pop, poutine, etc, and a smoothie/gelato bar, and on the other side is Taste of Paradise serving up Middle Eastern food. I was on the go and wanted some vegetarian takeout. I ordered the vegetarian plate to-go, and I wasn’t disapointed. It had a lot of food, was ready in just a couple of minutes, and tasted delicious. The …

I’m sure that many of you in the blogworld of heard of “Operation Beautiful” started by Caitlin of Healthy Tipping Point. For those who haven’t, the goal of Operation Beautiful is to put an end to negative self talk, or “fat talk”. The mission involves leaving anonymous messages scrawled on post-its to inspire others. All you need to join the mission is a pen, and a post-it. Leave an inspiring message on the bathroom mirror, or the scale at the gym, or on a magazine at the grocery store. Don’t …

I’ve been looking to try a brown rice protein powder for some time now. In the past I’ve tried whey (ew, never again) and hemp (yummy, but I find it quite chalky). This is by far the best protein powder I have tried. I got the vanilla flavour and was pleased to see that it only came in with 0.2g of sugar per serving. There is also 16g of protein per serving.
It is organic, non- GMO, sprouted brown rice that is hypo-allergenic (gluten, soy, and lactose free).
I had this is …

I had the pleasure of going to Vancouver’s longest running natural foods restaurant with a few friends. The Naam is located on 2724 West 4th Avenue and has been serving delicious vegetarian food 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for over 30 years. There are live bands every night, too!
It’s super casual and cute inside and there is also a patio if you’d like to eat outside. The portions are just huge, and for an entree that was under $10, I had enough food leftover for 1-2 meals. …

I loooove Whistler, and since I visit here often, I’m so excited that I’ve found such a fantastic place to eat at now. Creekbread not only makes delicious food, but I was amazed at the amount of organic and local ingredients they use. It seems like everything on the entire menu is made of top-quality ingredients, from nitrite-free and organic meats to fresh produce grown at local farms, and local, organic whole-milk cheeses.
This is the little 2nd floor:
The menu basically consists of an organic salad which comes with a blend …

I’m a fan of products from the Alpen muesli line, and I was lucky enough to recieve a box of their brand new Apple Spice muesli that is getting launched in British Columbia very soon. I like Alpen because their products contain very low amounts of sugar- if any. The Apple Spice flavour contains more sugar (6g). I first tried the muesli in a bowl with unsweetened almond milk (as I eat all my muesli/cereal) and I was taken aback by the strong cinnamon flavour. It tasted quite like a …
