Mint-Citrus Green Smoothie | Koko's Kitchen

Ya’ll know how us healthy living bloggers just loooove a good green smoothie. Well, I’ve got a doozy for you here. Fresh mint, plenty of citrus, greens, ginger, chia seeds…you just can’t go wrong with this baby. I drank it while singing Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” because I was in love with drinking this smoothie…that works, right?

Go ahead, try it. It might look scary but it’s actually so refreshing and full of nutrients. Your body will thank you. Just keep sippin’.

I used swiss chard in my Mint-Citrus Green Smoothie (which apparently is called silverbeet here in New Zealand?) but you could substitute spinach or kale. If you’re new to green smoothies, I’d suggest spinach because it’s easily masked by the banana and citrus- you won’t taste it at all. I use dates for a bit of sweetness, but if you could also use a bit of raw honey, maple syrup, coconut syrup, stevia, etc.

I don’t think I’ve ever added dates to a smoothie before… I’m very intrigued. Can you detect the taste at all or does it just add a touch of sweetness? Mint is so lovely and fresh this time of year a perfect pairing with the chard. Love the addition of orange too — it’s funny, I’m not sure why but I rarely eat oranges on their own yet it’s one of the first fruit I reach for in smoothies… it just seems to work beautifully, adding some sweetness and vitamin C. Delightful recipe KoKo.

  • Oh yay!! I’m so glad!

  • I don’t know why, but I always add one or two dates. I think it’s just an extra bit of sweetness that I like…I love dates. Oranges are perfect in smoothies…so juicy and refreshing! Not to mention the vitamin C factor…and when mixed with greens for iron, ya just can’t go wrong.

  • I haven’t made juices for a long, long time (since last summer), and I need to use my juicer (still stuck in the pantry) and get that werkin’! Fresh mint, citrus, chard and frozen banana….all sound so beautiful and refreshing! I need to get a new high-speed blender soon to make this smoothie as smooth as yours…and I love how green smoothies look, so divine and all! xx
