• Travel & the Food Freedom Lifestyle

I love to travel but I used to let diet mentality get in the way of my experiences away from home. I was constantly worried about how I could squeeze in a workout or trying to skip meals to make up for indulging in some type of food. The obsessing over food actually counteracted all of my efforts to diet and exercise. See: The Binge Cycle Having embraced intuitive eating over the last few years and reached a stable and comfortable Food Freedom Lifestyle, I was curious (and a little nervous) to see how I would do on my most recent extended holiday. My fiancé and I were heading to…

  • Seafood Platter At Home

    At-Home Seafood Platter

Some of you may know that Fraser and I are ✨obsessed✨ with seafood platters. I think we may have tried every single one this city has to offer. So… for Fraser’s birthday recently, I took a stab at making one myself! I was pressed for time and Daily Catch Seafood on Commercial Drive made it so easy. I preordered a cooked 2lb Dungeness crab and some cocktail prawns as well as a lobster tail. These all came frozen so after pickup I thawed them out. The lobster tail needed cooking and the crab just a quick steam. As it turns out, the lobster needed about 8 minutes to cook, and…

  • Tofu Scramble

Sometimes… you’ve just got to have breakfast for dinner! “Breakfast for dinner” is a super fun dinner party theme! The PJs are a must (for the food coma to come) 😴  This is an easy tofu scramble recipe for any time of day and it’s sure to please vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike. You can switch up the spices and herbs but I always leave the turmeric in for that nice yellow colour.

  • Slow Roasted Cherry Tomatoes with Burrata

Slow Roasted Cherry Tomatoes with Burrata

I slow roast tomatoes all Summer long. Generally I freeze them so I can experience a burst of Summer flavour in the deep of Winter. However, many of them must be enjoyed fresh at the time of cooking! The perfect way to do this (in my mind) is to pair them with burrata and a nice toasted baguette. With this recipe you can make as few or as many tomatoes as you like. If you make a whole tray full, freeze some for later if you don’t need them all at once. When you roast the tomatoes at a low temperature over an ample amount of time, the sugars caramelize…

  • The Binge Cycle

Let’s talk about the vicious cycle of restriction and bingeing also known as….. dieting. Here is a super simple break down of what happens to body and mind when we are stuck in this cycle. Leading up to: you’re exhausted you’ve had hours or days of restricting foods you’re triggered emotionally or are depleted of any emotional resources or physical energy from restricting you start to get a craving for a restricted food During: you may start with a different “healthier” food than what you are craving soon this leads to another type of food to fill the void eventually you give in and eat the food you’ve been craving…

  • Intuitive Goal Setting for the New Year

Happy New Year!! I hope that 2022 holds many beautiful moments for you. When it comes to planning the year ahead and manifesting all that you desire, goal setting and journalling can be such a helpful tool. I have a few tips and tricks to keep a healthy mindset (free of diet culture mentality) when it comes to dreaming up the year ahead. I like to create two lists. List one is a realistic look at the year ahead and includes things to do with my work, my house, my relationships, etc. List two is a list of my absolute fucking wildest dreams. Starting with list one, it is important…

  • How to Avoid Diet Culture During the Holidays & Stay Intuitive

December can be a scary time if you’re stuck in the depths of diet mentality. All of the food and celebration and socialization can become completely consumed by anxiety-inducing diet thoughts. Not to mention the stress of January 1st resolutions beginning. Be prepared  Listen to your body’s hunger cues throughout the day. If you are headed to a party and find yourself worrying about what food options might be available, avoid the unknown by having a snack or meal that makes you feel good before you go. 2. Don’t “save yourself” until mealtime If you’re stuck in diet mentality, I’m sure you have done it….gone hungry because you have a…

  • Watermelon, Arugula and Feta Salad – Summer Bliss!

Hello again! I can’t count how many times I have seen watermelon and feta salads on social media and TV. It never really seemed like my jam (despite loving watermelon and feta….) but the other day I saw a photo on Instagram and thought now is the time to try it! I cannot remember who made the one that I saw so I had to wing it. It turned out so delicious, I just had to share it with you all. It is not an exact recipe….just a casual summer dish you can throw together using amounts that suit you. I’ll lay out the basics here though. This salad is…

  • Koko

    Naramata Bench Wineries

With travel restrictions lifted, Fraser and I jumped on the chance to take a weekend trip up to Penticton. We were in much need of a mini-vacay and a sipping on some wine seemed like the best way to enjoy it! We booked a hotel in Penticton and enjoyed watching the Euros at Brexit Pub and then we had a leisurely float down the Penticton channel. We rented some gear at Coyote Cruises for the float and brought along some drinks and snacks. It took about 3 hours to get to the bottom and we were actually pulled out early because the river was moving so slow. If you have…

Why “Eat This, Not That” Just Doesn’t Work

If you’ve ever been on a diet (even just one) then I’m sure you are familiar with “eat this, not that”. A silly idea where you replace foods that are actually appealing to you with alternatives that either taste like cardboard or are in no way satisfying. A prime example is swapping out bread, crackers or cookies with rice cakes. Another example is swapping out ice cream out for yogurt or cottage cheese. Another example is swapping out chips for plain air-popped popcorn Sipping on soda water instead of juice or pop Spiralizing zucchini instead of making spaghetti noodles Swapping out a hamburger bun for a couple leaves of lettuce…

  • Evive Smoothie Cubes

EVIVE Nutrition – Smoothies, Soups and Bowls!

*Disclaimer: these Evive products were gifted to me however all of my opinions are my own and I am sharing them because I genuinely enjoyed this product. You may recognize Evive Nutrition’s signature smoothie cubes from Canada’s Dragon’s Den where they won over investors. Or, you may have seen their colourful images splashed over Facebook and Instagram. Evive’s smoothies are BLENDER-FREE, NUTRITIOUS and they TASTE GREAT! In my eyes, they win big on nutrition and convenience. All you need to do is pop the cubes out into a container, add a liquid of your choice (water, oat milk, etc) and shake! They are perfect for busy mornings when you are…
